CAERPHILLY CASTLE (Castell Caerffili)
Caerphilly Castle is the second largest medieval castle still standing in Europe.  It is a medieval castle in a 30 acre site.  It is one of the biggest in Britain and is famous for it's "leaning tower" (which can be partly seen on the right hand side of the first picture).  Today it is a popular site for wedding receptions which are held in the impressive Great Hall.
It was built between 1268 and 1271.  In 1956 the castle and grounds were handed over to the British Government.
It was built by Gilbert "the red" de Clare (Lord of Glamorgan), a red headed nobleman of Norman descent after a dispute between him and the Prince of Gwynedd, Llywelyn the Last.
(Caerphilly is also famous for it's cheese!)
